Questions we're frequently asked at Pro Assist Garage Conversions
I’m thinking of converting my single garage into another bedroom – what building regulations apply?
Converting a single garage into a bedroom in Bedfordshire always needs building regulations approval, with a few requirements specific to sleeping rooms. Under Part B fire safety, the bedroom needs a means of escape window with a clear opening of at least 450mm by 733mm, no more than 1.1m above the floor, plus a mains-linked smoke alarm. Alongside that, Part L covers insulation to current U-value targets, Part C the damp proof membrane and moisture control, Part F ventilation, and Part P the electrics. The old door opening is usually infilled with a load bearing wall and window. We manage the full building control process within our single garage conversion service, and our homeowner questions guide covers the common queries.
